Terms and licence conditions for QuadChroma
Last updated: 21 October 2026
Overview (the sections below are what counts):
- Showing and controlling other computers (client) is free, on as many devices as you like.
- Sharing a computer (host) needs a licence or the free 7-day trial.
- A licence covers two host computers, any mix of Mac and Windows: as a one-time purchase for the purchased major version with no fixed term, as a subscription for every version for as long as it runs.
- You get a right of use, not ownership of the software, with a one-time purchase too. Using QuadChroma as a host requires our licence service; if we discontinue it, that use ends. We will announce this at least 90 days in advance.
- The seller is Paddle.com. Our 14-day money-back guarantee applies.
- You can cancel a subscription at any time without signing in, using the “Cancel contracts here” button, and withdraw from a purchase with “Withdraw from contract here”; both buttons are at the bottom of the pages. If you cancel within 14 days of a one-time purchase, this counts as withdrawal.
1. Provider and scope
- QuadChroma is provided by Robert Brandt, trading as QuadChroma, Schenkenberger Str. 3a, 04509 Delitzsch, Germany (“we”). Contact: hello@quadchroma.tech or our contact form.
- These terms and licence conditions govern how you may use QuadChroma for macOS and Windows: free as a client, and as a host with a licence or a trial. They apply to every use of the software you obtain from quadchroma.tech or through our update server.
- By buying a licence or taking out a subscription, and at the latest by using QuadChroma, you accept these terms.
2. Purchase through Paddle
- Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders.
- Der Bestellvorgang wird von unserem Online-Wiederverkäufer Paddle.com abgewickelt. Paddle.com ist Merchant of Record für alle unsere Bestellungen.
- Your purchase contract for a licence or a subscription is with Paddle, and Paddle’s buyer terms apply to it. Paddle takes the payment, issues the receipt, handles the sales tax and pays out refunds.
- Your licence agreement for using QuadChroma is with us. With the purchase, or with the first payment of a subscription, you receive a licence key; we grant you the rights to use QuadChroma with it under these terms.
3. What you get
- Client: you may install QuadChroma for free on as many devices as you like and use it to show and control other computers. You need neither a licence nor an account for that.
- Host: for other devices to access a computer (sharing), that computer needs an activated licence or a running trial.
- Licence: a licence gives you the simple (non-exclusive) right to use the host function of QuadChroma on up to two devices. The devices may be Macs, Windows PCs or both. Several user accounts on the same computer count as one device. For more than two host devices you need more licences.
- A right of use, not ownership: even with a one-time purchase, i.e. a single payment, you only receive this right of use, not ownership of QuadChroma or of any copy of it. The right of use is non-exclusive and not transferable, except as a whole under section 7. Using QuadChroma as a host requires the licence check through our licence server (section 5). If we discontinue the licence service, use as a host ends (section 10).
- Trial: you can try the host function for free for 7 days, once per device and major version, without an e-mail address and without payment details. The trial starts in the app and needs an internet connection once. Afterwards sharing pauses until you activate a licence; a running remote session ends no later than 12 hours after the trial has ended.
- You may use QuadChroma privately and for work. Apps for iPhone and iPad are not part of the licence.
- What QuadChroma does and which computers it needs is described on the features and requirements pages.
4. Licence types: one-time purchase and subscription
- One-time purchase: with a one-time purchase you pay once and receive a licence that includes every update of the purchased major version, for example from 1.0 to 1.9. It has no fixed term. It ends if we discontinue the licence service (section 10) or under section 12 (suspension, refund, chargeback). A new major version, recognisable by a higher number before the first dot (for example 2.0 after 1.x), is a new product and has to be bought again. A licence for a higher major version also covers every earlier major version.
- Subscription: the subscription is available monthly for €5.99 or yearly for €49, VAT included in each case. For as long as it runs, the licence covers every version, including new major versions released during the term. Otherwise section 3 applies.
- Billing and renewal of the subscription follow Paddle’s buyer terms. Paddle charges the fee at the start of each paid period and sends you a receipt for it.
- You can cancel the subscription at any time, without giving reasons, for the end of the paid period, without signing in, using the “Cancel contracts here” button at the bottom of the pages of this website. The confirmation goes straight to the e-mail address you enter. Until the end of the paid period you can keep using QuadChroma as a host.
- If a payment fails, Paddle informs you and tries again. If the payment does not come through, the subscription ends.
- When the subscription ends, the licence ends too, and sharing pauses on your devices. The client remains free to use. A licence from a one-time purchase is not affected.
5. Activation and devices
- To activate, you enter the licence key in QuadChroma; the computer needs an internet connection once for this. What the app sends to our licence server is described in the privacy policy.
- After that QuadChroma checks the licence on the device itself. A host contacts the licence server about every 7 days, daily during the first 14 days after the purchase. If it cannot reach the server, sharing keeps working for up to 30 days after the last successful contact and only then pauses until a connection succeeds again. The client is never affected. QuadChroma also checks itself for changes and reports irregularities to our licence server (see the privacy policy). If QuadChroma is modified or used without a valid licence, we may, after review, remove the affected device from the licence and block it.
- You can remove a device in the app or in your customer account and activate another one instead. So that a licence does not circulate among many computers, at most 3 device switches are possible within 90 days; every removal of an active device counts as a switch. Once the limit is reached, a freed slot can only be used again when older switches drop out of the 90-day period.
- A device that has not contacted the licence server for 100 days frees its slot automatically.
- If this does not fit a special case, for example after a hardware failure, write to us and we will help.
6. Permitted use
You may only use QuadChroma with computers that belong to you or that the people entitled to them have expressly allowed you to access. You must not:
- access other people’s computers, data or networks without authorisation;
- bypass DRM, HDCP or other copy protection;
- pass on or show other people’s protected content, such as films, series or sports broadcasts, without permission;
- use QuadChroma for unlawful purposes, fraud or spam;
- interfere with the security of QuadChroma, our licence server or other systems, or bypass, remove or modify the licence check;
- publish the licence key or pass it on to people who do not take over the licence under section 7;
- rent out QuadChroma;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble QuadChroma, except where sections 69d and 69e of the German Copyright Act permit it or the licences of the included open-source components allow it (section 9).
Anything the law allows you anyway, such as a backup copy, remains unaffected.
7. Passing on the licence
- You may pass on a licence from a one-time purchase as a whole to another person, for example sell it or give it away. Passing it on works through the “Transfer licence” function in your customer account and is free of charge. If you bought or took over your licence before 12 October 2026, you can instead still drop us a line, as the version on the day of your purchase or takeover provides: we then switch the licence to the new holder, remove all your devices from the licence in the process and send the new holder a new licence key. The conditions in 7.3 do not apply to this.
- The whole licence with all device slots is always transferred. Splitting a licence, for example one device each for two people, is not allowed. Subscriptions (they run on the Paddle account of the person who took them out), the trial and licences we issued without a purchase, for example to the press, cannot be transferred.
- To protect against fraud and against the takeover of customer accounts, these conditions apply: a) The 14-day money-back period after the purchase has ended, and no cancellation or withdrawal concerning the licence is being processed. Otherwise a licence could be sold and the purchase price reclaimed afterwards. b) Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app has been switched on in your customer account for at least 7 days. A second factor that was only just set up is a typical sign that someone has taken over another person’s account. Suitable apps are available free of charge for phones and computers. c) The last transfer of the same licence was at least 90 days ago, fewer than three transfers of it were started in the last 30 days, and fewer than three invitations that were not accepted went to the new holder’s address in the last 30 days. Transfers in quick succession are mainly used to pass on stolen licences or licences that are later charged back; the limit on invitations protects other people’s addresses from mass invitations. d) You confirm the transfer with a code we send you by e-mail for this purpose and with a code from your authenticator app. In doing so you declare that after the transfer you will no longer use QuadChroma as a host with this licence and will delete the licence key and all copies of it.
- This is how the transfer works: the new holder receives an e-mail and can accept the licence in their customer account within 7 days. To do so they sign in with the e-mail address, set up two-factor sign-in and accept these terms. Two-factor sign-in protects the licence against the takeover of the customer account from the start and makes sure that only someone with both the mailbox and the authenticator app can accept. After acceptance there is a waiting period of 72 hours; until it ends, you can cancel the transfer in your customer account. Then the licence passes over: we remove your devices from the licence, your current licence key becomes invalid and the new holder receives a new licence key. Sharing on your devices ends with their next check as described in section 12. If the licence is declined or not accepted in time, or you cancel, it stays with you.
- We may end a transfer before it is complete if there are concrete signs of fraud, of the takeover of a customer account or of a breach of these terms, or if a condition in 7.3 no longer applies. The licence then stays with you; we let you know by e-mail. If there are signs of misuse, we may also temporarily suspend starting and accepting transfers for everyone.
- These terms apply to the new holder from acceptance, in the version on the day of acceptance (section 15). They take over the licence as it is: for the same major version with its updates and with the same number of device slots. Because the licence is taken over rather than bought from us, we do not refund a purchase price for it; questions about the resale are a matter between the parties. Receipts and the Paddle account remain with the original purchase. If the payment for the original purchase is later charged back, or fully refunded because the original buyer asks for it or the payment was fraudulent, the licence ends even after a transfer (section 12). We point this out in the invitation and before acceptance.
- If you pass on a licence outside this procedure, for example by passing on only the licence key, or keep using it after the transfer, you are in breach of these terms.
8. Updates and help
- Once a day the app asks our own update server whether there is a new version. It is installed automatically only if you have switched that on in the app; otherwise you decide yourself whether and when to update.
- With a one-time purchase the licence includes every update of the purchased major version, for example from 1.0 to 1.9; with a subscription every version for as long as it runs. Updates fix bugs and close security vulnerabilities; new features may come but aren’t guaranteed.
- Statutory obligations to provide updates to consumers (in Germany § 327f of the Civil Code) remain unaffected.
- Help is available by e-mail to hello@quadchroma.tech or through the contact form, in German or English. We do not promise a fixed response time.
9. Copyright and open-source components
- QuadChroma is protected by copyright. All rights not expressly granted to you in these terms remain with us.
- QuadChroma contains third-party components under open-source licences, for example FFmpeg under the GNU LGPL in the Windows version. These components are governed by their own licences, which take precedence over these terms. The list and the licence texts come with the app.
- QuadChroma grants no patent licences for video formats such as H.264, HEVC or AV1. Video is encoded and decoded by the operating system, the graphics driver or, in the Windows version, the included FFmpeg libraries.
10. Availability, connection service and shutting down the licence service
- We aim to run the licence server, the update server and the website reliably, but do not promise uninterrupted operation. Sharing keeps working for up to 30 days without a connection to the licence server (section 5); the client never needs it.
- Should we discontinue the licence service, i.e. the licence server and the update server, permanently, we will announce it at least 90 days in advance by e-mail and on quadchroma.tech.
- When the service is discontinued, use as a host ends for every licence, including a licence from a one-time purchase: without the licence server, sharing pauses on each device no later than 30 days after its last contact (section 5). A running subscription ends when the service is discontinued; we refund the fee for the paid time after that pro rata. You have no claim to a version without a licence check or to a licence file without an expiry date.
- Connection service: once we offer it, every licence and the 7-day trial include our connection service free of charge; we do not promise a date. Our server helps a client and your host find each other over the internet. The session itself then runs directly between the two, not through our server. A direct connection is not possible on every network; for such networks our relay is planned as a separate add-on, which is not part of the licence. As with the licence server, we aim to run it reliably but do not promise uninterrupted operation (paragraph 1). Should we discontinue the connection service permanently, we will announce it at least 90 days in advance by e-mail and on quadchroma.tech. On your own network and over a VPN you can then keep connecting as before.
11. Statutory rights and liability
- In case of defects, the statutory rights for digital products apply (in Germany §§ 327 ff. of the Civil Code). They are directed against Paddle as the seller and remain fully intact; we support Paddle and you technically. If something does not work, feel free to contact us directly first.
- We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where we have given a guarantee.
- For slight negligence we are liable only if we breach an essential obligation whose fulfilment makes the use of QuadChroma possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely. In that case liability is limited to the typical damage foreseeable when the contract was concluded.
- Otherwise we are not liable. This also applies to the people we use to perform our obligations.
12. Suspension, refunds and chargebacks
- If you breach section 6, we may suspend the licence after a prior warning. In serious cases, such as unauthorised access to other people’s computers or bypassing the licence check, we may suspend it immediately. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
- If a purchase or a subscription payment is fully refunded or withdrawn, or the payment is charged back, we deactivate the licence; a subscription ends with it. Sharing ends on the devices with their next check: during the first 14 days after the purchase within one day with an internet connection, afterwards within 8 days, on a device without internet access no later than 30 days after its last contact. The client remains free to use.
- For a licence that was transferred under section 7, paragraph 2 applies if the payment is charged back or the purchase is fully refunded because the original buyer asks for it or the payment was fraudulent (section 7.6).
- If a chargeback is reversed, the licence is valid again. A partial refund does not end the licence.
13. Cancellation and withdrawal
- You can cancel at any time without signing in, using the “Cancel contracts here” button at the bottom of the pages of this website. A subscription ends at the end of the paid period (section 4). If your cancellation covers a one-time purchase made no more than 14 days before we receive it, it counts as withdrawal from that purchase: we refund the purchase price through our reseller Paddle within 14 days of receipt, and the licence is deactivated afterwards (section 12). A one-time purchase made longer ago is not an ongoing contract and is not ended by a cancellation.
- You withdraw from a purchase using the “Withdraw from contract here” button at the bottom of the pages. The money-back guarantee, the statutory right of withdrawal and refunds are described on the refunds and withdrawal page.
- The right of both sides to terminate for good cause remains unaffected.
14. Privacy
Which data QuadChroma, the website, the customer account and our servers process is described in the privacy policy.
15. Changes to these terms
Changes apply only to new contracts or with your consent. For a licence from a one-time purchase, the version on the day of purchase applies; for a subscription, the version on the day you took it out. A new version applies to a running subscription only if you agree to it. For a licence you took over under section 7, the version on the day of acceptance applies; if the previous holder wrote to us under the earlier version (section 7.1), the version on the day of the switch. For free use as a client and for the trial, the version shown on this page when the respective release came out applies.
16. Applicable law and dispute resolution
- German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer with your habitual residence in another country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory consumer protection provisions.
- If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this contract is our place of business in Delitzsch, Germany. For consumers the statutory places of jurisdiction apply.
- We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
- These terms exist in German and in English. Where the versions differ, the one more favourable to you applies.
